1.     In Dressage and Jumping a Young rider / Junior rider, 16 years and above, can participate in a NEC / Regional Senior event in the same show on a appropriately graded horse without effecting their JNEC status.
2.     In Eventing, a Young rider / Junior rider 16 years and above, can participate in a NEC / Regional Senior event in the same show, without effecting their JNEC status, but not on a horse that is entered in the senior category with another senior rider in the same show.
3.    In Endurance a YR / J rider 14 years and above, can participate in a NEC / Regional Senior event in the same show, without affecting their JNEC status, but not on a horse that is entered in the senior category in the same show.
4.     In Tent Pegging, a Young rider / Junior rider 16 years and above, can participate in a NEC / Regional Senior event in the same show without effecting their JNEC status.
5.     FEI World Challenge Children Dressage & FEI International Children’s Jumping Competition is open to riders aged 12 to 14 yrs.
6.     Since there is an overlap of age in all categories, the rider has the choice to participate in a higher category in the JNEC. However, once a rider decides to participate in a particular category he/she can be downgraded only the next year . Such riders can further upgrade themselves in subsequent JNEC’s only once they are in the age bracket of the category to which they upgraded themselves.
7.     For participation in International competitions the lower age limit is 16 years.
   Standards for show jumping competitions:- (Min 50% of the jumps will be of full height and spread to include three vertical and three parallel jumps).

1.    All horses above 4 yrs of age can participate. There is no restriction on the grade of horses participating (Except Grade-I). However if a junior rider owns a grade-I horse he/she may be permitted to participate.
2.    Abuse of horses:-       As per FEI Rules.
3.    Jump Off:-Jump off will be for 2nd or 3rd place also if there are two or more competitors placed equally. Specially for CSI Y / CSI B selection competitions . For team event there will be no jump off. Team placing will be decided on the timing of 2nd rounds.

2.    RESTRICTION ON HORSES
All horses above 4 yrs of age can participate. No restriction on grade of horses participating. (Except Prix St George & Inter-I). However if a junior rider owns a prix St George/Inter-I horse he/she may be permitted to participate.

1.    General:-   The one day event comprises of 3 distinct tests in 3 disciplines held on the same day or over two days.
(a)      Competitor rides the same horse throughout.
(b)      Dressage is held the first,
(c)      Followed by Cross Country or Jumping.
2.    Eligibility/Restriction on horses:-     All horses 4 years of age and above are eligible except 3* level horse and above. However if a junior rider owns a 3* level and above horse he/she may be permitted to participate.

Horse should ideally finish as close to optimum time as possible (IN JNEC ONE DAY EVENT ALL HORSES THAT FINISH MORE THAN 30 SECONDS BEFORE THE OPTIMUM TIME IN CROSS COUNTRY WILL BE PENALISED BY 25 PENALTIES).
1.    The maximum distance for the endurance competition would be 40Km. The vet gate would be at 20 Km, with compulsory halt of at least 30 minutes, which may be increased, by the President of the ground jury. Min/Max speed limits would be decided by the President Ground Jury.
2.    No rider below the age of 14 years can participate.
3.    There is no minimum weight restriction.
1.    Only Individual Tent Pegging Competition with lance will be held for Young riders
(16 Years of age and above).
(a)      Speed:-     800 mts per minute (Time allowed is 7.5 secs for 100m course).
(b)      Number of Rounds:-     TWO
(c)      Number of Runs:-     Three per round, the first round will have 2 runs on 6 cm pegs
and 3rd run on 4 cm pegs. In second round the first run will be on 6 cm peg and 2nd & 3rd
runs will be on 4 cm pegs.
(d)      Placing:-     Highest scorer in both rounds will be placed first and the next best score
will be placed next and so on.
(e)      Tie:-     To avoid undue stress on tent pegging horses, there should be only one
additional run on a 2.5 cm peg. Then the classification will be according to the time. If we
still have a tie, then the classification will be according to the time of the last run, and if a tie
persists, then the time of the run prior to that will be used to determine the winner /
positions
(f)      Length of Course:-     100 meters (Start to Finish line).
(g)      Carry Distance:-     10 meters for Card Board pegs and 15 meters for wooden pegs.
(h)      First Peg:-     70 meters from start line.
2.     SPECIFICATION OF EQUIPMENTS
(a)      LANCE:-    The lance shall not be shorter than 2.5 meters (8 feet 2 inch) and shall not
exceed 2.75 meters (9 feet) with a smooth metal point without serrated or sharp edges.
Grips are permitted. Lances can be of any material.
(b)      PEGS
(i)        CARD BOARD PEGS:-    Card Board Pegs used should be made of 2 layers of
corrugated card board glued together with total thickness of 2.5 cm with corrugation
running vertically. Sizes will be as specified for wooden pegs.
(ii)       WOODEN PEGS:-     Wooden Pegs used should be of following specifications
and to avoid splitting of wooden pegs, the pegs shall be secured with a wire at 2”
from both the end
(aa)     Length   -    30cm
(ab)     Thickness   -    2.5cm
(aa)     Width   -    6cm, 4cm, 3cm, 2.5cm
(e)      Layout of Pegs:-     The pegs are driven into the ground at an angle of 60 degrees
from horizontal, with exactly 17 cm of the peg showing above the ground level. The face of
the peg must be painted white or sprinkled with pure white chalk/lime.
2.     AWARD OF POINTS-PEGS
(a)      6 Points:-     For wooden pegs carried all the way or falls forward /sideways beyond
15 meters. For cardboard pegs carried all the way or falls forward / sideways beyond 10m
measured from the point at which the peg was placed. In single file same principle holds
good. Peg struck with point of lance or sword but breaks and part of it still in the ground,
even if no part of it still attached to the weapon.
(b)      4 Points:-    Peg removed from the ground, but not carried full distance as stipulated
above.
(c)      2 Points:-    Peg struck on face, but not removed from its position in the ground.
Peg must be struck on the face of the peg by the point of the weapon and must leave a mark on the peg (marks on the side of the pegs are not countable). Doubtful pegs must be handed over to the jury.
   As per FEI Rules
   A Rider can enter a max of two horses in any one event of the JNEC. If two horses are entered he will have to nominate one horse. Only the penalties on the nominated horse will be counted towards rider points. However, he may be awarded medals for both horses. The nominated horse will start before the second horse in the competition.

   The National Federation may however from time to time lay down minimum standards of entitlement for awarding of medals in the National Equestrian Championships. This has been incorporated to debar presentation of medals to undeserving participants in the unlikely circumstances where participation in NEC is either very limited or unrepresentative of National standards.
