Eligibility of horses for participation in Pre-Novice, Novice and CNC/CCN one star category shall be governed by EFI rules. Eligibility for CCI and CIC one, two & three star and CCN/ CNC two & three star events shall be Governed by FEI rules.
1.  It is mandatory for the organizers to conduct at least four categories of Eventing Competitions irrespective of the number of entries, to enable the riders to accrue points for up gradation.
2.  Two medals will not be awarded for the same event.
All horses 4 yrs of age and above shall be eligible to participate in Pre Novice Eventing.
1.  Pre Novice horses shall be allowed to participate in Pre Novice Eventing category only till two successful completion in EFI recognized/organized competitions and thereafter the horses shall be automatically upgraded to Novice category.
2.  Pre Novice Horses shall be allowed to participate in Novice Eventing in the same competition for which cooling period/rest of 72 hours or more is mandatory.
All horses of 4 yrs of age and above can participate in Novice Eventing.
1.  Horses upgraded from Pre Novice.
2.  Novice horses shall be allowed to participate in one grade high ie. CNC/CCN one star category provided they meet MER/qualifying results for upgradaion from novice to one star & meet age criteria (Refer Art 114.2). Cooling period/rest of 72 h or more is mandatory and 5 yrs of age.
3.  With the permission of NF, the horses on achieving age eligibility criteria may be allowed to participate directly to Novice category.
Horse may compete in one and two star level competitions on attaining the age of six year (FEI Art 503.4 refers) and horses may compete in CNC/CCN one star events on attaining the age of 5 yrs (NEC Eventing)..
The cut off classification for CCI*/CIC*/CCN*/CNC* horses are as under:-
1.  Horses achieved a QR/MER in Novice Eventing as per EFI Rules in EFI organized/ recognized competition.
2.  Novice horse of 5 yrs and above can participate competitive in one higher grade in CNC*/CCN* eventing only and for CCI*/CIC* competitions, FEI rules will be applied provided the horse meets the QR/MER and age profile.
3.  Cooling period/rest of 72 h or more is mandatory.
Only horses qualifying for Two star competitions as laid down MER by the FEI can participate in CIC**/CCI**/CNC**/CCN** and shall also be applicable for up gradation from CNC/CCN one star to two star.
1.  Eventing horses after competing in Pre novice and Novice Eventing will have mandatory 72 hrs of cooling period/rest for participation in higher grade in same competition.
2.  Horses can participate competitive one grade higher than parent grade in same event (Horse Show), provided the horse meets the QR/MER of EFI and FEI at lower grade. This condition shall be applicable for Novice horses.
3.  Horse Concours (HC):- A horse is allowed to start the competition in its own grade or any lower grade but will not be entitled for any benefits whatsoever including upgradation & downgradation. All HC entries will start at the top order of the draw in the competition. No horse can participate as HC in a higher grade.
4.  Abuse to Horses:- As per FEI Rules. (IT IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE PRESIDENT GROUND JURY TO ELIMINATE THE RIDER AND/OR AWARD A YELLOW CARD AS PER FEI GUIDELINES).
1.  Minimum age of a rider for participation in JNEC Eventing is 16 yrs.
2. FEI article 503.2 will be referred for participation in senior events viz national championships, international competitions/championships and games.
1.  A Rider can enter a max of three horses in each grade in the NEC. He will have to nominate any two horses for his penalties to be counted towards rider points. Nominated horses will start first in the competition. A rider will get points in each grade for his highest placed nominated horse only. The penalties of the other horses will only be counted towards up gradation and not towards rider points irrespective of the result.
2.  If a rider does not nominate his horse before the start of the competition then the first horse ridden in the competition will be deemed as nominated horse and penalties accrued by first horse ridden will count.
3.  FEI rules will be applied for international competitions/championships and games.
1.  Minimum Eligibility Requirement from CNC*/CCN*/CIC*/CCI* & above, FEI rules on up gradation will be applied.
2.  Minimum Eligibility Requirement from Novice eventing to one star eventing.
(a) Dressage         – 65 penalties and below.
(b) Cross Country (i) 20 Penalties.
(ii) Not exceeding the optimum time by over 90 secs.
(c) Show Jumping – 12 jumping penalties and below.
3.  MER will not be effected toward upgrading for a rider who comes before times and is awarded 25 penalties.
Note:- HORSE SCORING MORE THAN 75 PENALITIES IN DRESSAGE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO START IN CROSS COUNTRY AND JUMPING PHASE OF EVENTING.

A Rider may be permitted to upgrade his horse to any grade on submission of a written application to efi which will be vetted by a committee consisting of vp tech, Member discipline & secy gen. However, Once upgraded the horse will remain in that higher grade till it is downgraded as per the procedures of downgrading.
1.  With the present policy of participation a horse may participate in two or more different grades in the same EFI Calendar year (01 Aug to 31 Jul). With this policy in vogue it is possible that certain horse may get upgraded by two grades within the same EFI Calendar yr. However, the rider will have the liberty whether to accept or reject the 2nd upgradation within the same yr by sending a written application to Secy Gen EFI.
2.  In case, after the first upgradation if the horse participates in next higher grade and achieve results within first three positions in individual event of NEC during the same EFI calendar yr the horse will remain in the next higher grade in which he participated (i.e 2nd upgradation).
