At this time of the year Chennai gets the best weather of the year and it has also attaracted the best of the equine talent in the country.

On the morning of 11 December were the South India Equestrian Championship Dressage Elementary and Novice grade competitions.

Hot favourite and improving by the day combination of Abhishek Chopra and Appeaser won the Elementary Dressage with ease . Followed by Havildar Lakhbir astride Red Rum and Havildar Shrawan astride Shaan.

In the Novice Dressage , Risaldar Bhagirath rode a very accurate test on Glandyl Wolf to win with a narrow margin over a resurgent Mirza and Lt Col Deep Ahlawat combination . Lt Col R K Dahiya and Oscar look omnious for future and finished a close third.

For the evening menu was FEI World Jumping Challenge Category A Competition 1 , Round 1 and 2.

From 33 starters attempting a tight Technical course , there were only 2 clear rounds in the Round 1 comprising of the National champion pair Arun Maribashetty astride CJ -15 and the very promising Maj Ravi Rathore astride Remarkable .

Breathing down their neck , with only 4 penalties each were Aditya Krishna on Gautemala , Capt Amit Sinsinwar on Gazal, Dafedar Bhoom Singh on Virat , Lt Col Deep Ahlawat on Mirza , Nitin Gupta on Barasie, Risaladar Bhagirath on Guddu , Yashaan on Napolean , Maj N S Sandhu on Twister and Maj Salim Pathan on Arjun.

The field got reduced to 22 for the Round 2. End of which, the top placers was a repeat clear Maj Ravi Rathore on Remarkable . Lying joint second with a 4 penalties each Arun Maribashetty / CJ-15 , Maj N S Sandhu / Twister.

In the fray and not far behind this leading pack are Capt Amit Sinsinwar and Dafedar Bhoom Singh on Mastana

The FEI World Jumping Challenge Category B competitions will conclude on 12th December and Category A finishes on 13 th December.
